Dominick:
Being the protagonist of the film, Dominick had to fulfil the role of the submissive victim that is completely unaware of what is going on behind him. His lighter features allow for him to appear like the harmless character that he is. He appears to be beyond frightened as he is harassed by the masked man in his backyard. He was also wearing incredibly casual clothing, as we wished to make him look like an average teenage boy. This was to make it seem like this home-invasion scenario could happen to just about anybody, and even in your own home, you aren’t safe.
The Masked Man:
Contrary to Dominick, the Masked Man took on the role of the antagonist of the film. His role was primarily to frighten the audience and Dominick, but he has a smaller sub-role that may not be noticed upon first viewing. The mystery behind the masked man can also make the audience question the identity of the man behind the mask. The use of the mask can aid in his overall creepiness because the audience and Dominick alike are unaware of who he is. The audience also doesn’t know what he’s feeling of what any of his emotions are because of the mask. He also is much larger and has darker features which also contributes to his eerie nature in the film.
