After banding together with my group, we had decided on 3-shot scene that would explore the beginnings of a potential comedic outlook on other projects. The idea was rather simple. The scene would begin with character 1, strolling peacefully through a corridor, supposedly alone. Out of nowhere, character 2 springs into action, snatching character 1’s sweater and tossing it off the ledge, forcefully. Then we find ourselves in the second shot of the film. The shot is angled so that the viewer gets a low angle shot of the sweater falling gracefully towards the ground. This is done to make the audience feel submissive compared to the sweater that falls towards them. The final shot that completes our 3-shot scene is a reaction shot of character 1, looking over the edge at the sweater. This shot is taken from the same angle as the previous shot. This is done to create a sense of realism, that the audience is looking up at me from the sweaters perspective. The look of disbelief on character 1’s face can indicate a sense of longing between character 1 and his sweater, making the audience feel compelled to sympathize for the boy. All this while being drawn to laugh at character 1’s silly antics as character 2 completely humiliates him. This 3-shot scene really helped me expand my horizons when it comes to the possibility of film making. This experience can better prepare me for the eventual construction of my short film, and I can’t wait to produce another 3-shot scene.
